Abhisek wants to see his case walk
CHANDIGARH: Abhisek Ahluwalia, a Plus Two student of DAV-Sector 15, takes more than a kangaroo hop with his right leg to reach his ringing mobile phone on a couch across his living room in Shivalik Enclave house. Soon after, he lands on the couch with a resounding thud.
He can hop, but can't stand.Three years ago, on this day, Abhisek, then 14, fractured his left leg while playing football at his alma mater, St John's in Sector 26, along with his friends.

So, while the whole world went crazy about the Football World Cup extravaganza, Abhisek preferred to watch the game he loved the most: India-West Indies cricket series.
"I never had any love for football. My friends were playing football after an inter-house match, so I just joined in. But I have no qualms about having played football that day," Abhisek says.
But the Ahluwalias are angry with the doctors, who treated him at a Sector-34 private hospital. "My son was admitted to this hospital with a fracture of tibia.
But came out with a condition where his left leg had to be amputated from the knee," says his mother Anuradha.
The amputation saved his life. "The criminal negligence of the doctors led to a condition wherein Abhisek developed multiple-organ failure. We had to rush him to GMCH to save his life, though he lost his leg," says Anuradha, who is the force behind her son's oozing confidence.

When the family approached the local consumer forum, it rejected their complaint. Now, the family has moved the national consumer forum in Delhi to seek damages to the tune of Rs 97 lakh for the alleged criminal negligence on the part of the doctors, who treated Abhisek.
Not resting at that, a criminal case too was filed with the local courts here.
After three years of the incident and two years of the case being filed, it has still reached a stage when arguments over framing of charges against the Sector 34 hospital doctor were in progress. The next hearing in the case before the court of Sudhir Parmar was posted for August 21.
